FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER
Parenting is a difficult task that no one should face alone. The Family Support Center is a place that provides early intervention and care to children and families who are struggling with a variety of social needs. From teaching parents how to speak English to coaching young mothers how to properly care for their children, the Family Support Center's programs serves thousands of families and children each year!
We understand that caring for a family begins with having the skills and means to do so. That’s why we offer employable skills training courses to parents, including ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, GED courses, basic computer courses, and much more!
And, for the convenience of participants, we also provide free onsite child care! In addition to these services, there are six programs designed to meet the needs of diverse, at-risk families.
Family Support & Resource Centers: These collaborative centers welcome Hillsborough County families to participate in free programs and services, including supervised playtime for their children. Their goal is to meet the diverse needs of families within the community, driven by participating families who are part of a Family Advisory Council, where needs are assessed, ideas are brainstormed, priorities are set, and plans are developed as families, staff, and community agencies work together.
We offer two locations in the Town 'N Country area. The Town 'N Country Center is located on Waters Avenue at Hanley Road, while the West Care Center is located on Idlewild Blvd. Take a look at the numerous classes offered at the West Care Center in January 2008.

Children's Future Hillsborough - FASST (Family And School Support Teams): The Family and School Support Team is a multi-disciplinary intervention team composed of schools, community and family representatives. The primary goal of FASST is to provide support for children ages 0-8 and families so that they function more successfully and independently at home, school, and in the community. The FASST team utilizes strength-based planning to support the child and the family. The process recognizes, combines, and uses the strengths of the family, school system, community services, and existing family supports to achieve goals established by the family. In strength-based planning, the family, school system, and community service providers link strengths across systems to establish a collective force to reduce or eliminate barriers faced by the child and family. The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County helps to fund this project, and we collaborate with 13 Hillsborough County elementary schools in the Town and Country area to provide children and families with the help they need to overcome some of life’s obstacles.

Healthy Families Hillsborough: This program is tailored to reduce and prevent child abuse, neglect and other child-rearing dangers. Through Healthy Families Hillsborough, expecting and new mothers receive the vital training and assistance needed to nurture and rear healthy young children. With home visiting, parent support, education, and child development training activities, parents are given the tools to promote healthy, productive families.
Parents as Partners: With the assistance of funding from the United Way of Tampa Bay, Parents as Partners provides early intervention services to link families with community resources. This program concentrates on specific at-risk geographic areas throughout the community. Some of the services include family counseling, free developmental screenings, tutoring, mentoring, parental support and education, and behavioral management interventions.
Pinellas Support Team (PST): Similar to the Family and School Support Team, we also provide these services to students and families in Pinellas County. The program coordinates a variety of support services, helping to improve academic performance, classroom conduct, parent/school communication, and attendance. Children and families who participate in this program are experiencing emotional problems, family dysfunction, and other domestic issues. Some may also live in a high-risk environment where these factors are interfering with academic performance. With funding from the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County and the Pinellas County School District, we collaborate with six elementary schools in Pinellas County.
